Abstract

A new planar antenna using two-dimensional patch array resonator for an improved-bandwidth performance is presented. The antenna, designed to work at 6.8 GHz on a 1.27-mm-thick substrate with a dielectric constant of 9.8, has a total size of 314 mm2. The measurements showed a 6-dB frequency bandwidth of 12.9%, which is a significant improvement over the 3.3% bandwidth measured from a 40 mm2 single-patch reference antenna.
