Abstract

Luminescence properties of NaLnGeO4:Eu3+ (Ln=rare earth) phosphors were investigated. It has a strong red emission under mercury discharge and deep blue/near-UV excitations. With the proper atomic ratio of rare earth ions, Y/Gd, and activator concentration, the emission intensity of Eu3+-activated germanate compound is comparable to that of commercial red-emitting phosphor, Y2O3:Eu3+, under 254 nm excitation with the CIE coordinates are x=0.655. y=0.339. Moreover, the maximum emission intensity is about four times higher than that of SrS:Eu3+ under GaN-based blue light excitations (λex=400-465 nm).
