Abstract

Absorptionless self-phase-modulation (SPM) via dark-state electromagnetically induced transparency was studied. It was shown that a driven two-level system can enhance SPM with no absorption of the signal field but with excited-state population due to pump-field absorption. Possible applications of this system were to the generation of spatial solitons or of squeezed light.
