Abstract
A study was conducted on cluster growth morphology and thermal sintering for various surfaces and various metal-support interaction strengths. In the experiments reported, surfaces with two types of adjacent domains with distinctly different properties were synthesized, facilitating a direct comparison of the cluster growth modes and sintering characteristics on these adjacent areas within the same scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) image. Using this specially designed surface, the growth and thermal sintering of Ag clusters were investigated with STM.
