Abstract
A novel forward link supervision algorithm applicable to power controlled CDMA systems is presented. This new algorithm relies upon the quality of the dedicated power control commands and is therefore compatible with systems that offer packet data service without an assigned dedicated Walsh code channel such as that found in commercial systems defined by IS-2000 Rev C. The algorithm is analyzed both analytically and with simulations. The conclusion from these analyzes show that the proposed forward link supervision algorithm does not affect the call quality, minimizes the impact on the reverse link capacity from unreliable power control commands and leads to call termination only if necessary.
