Abstract
In this study, ammonia borane (AB) based solid fuels were screened utilizing 18-crown-6 (18C6) and its derivatives as promoters, and their dehydrogenation properties at 125 °C were examined for fuel cell applications. Among promoters employed, dibenzo-18C6 molecule showed excellent activity for the desired H2 production, with > 2 equiv. of H2 being released in 30 min. FT-IR and solid-state 11B NMR spectroscopic studies revealed that spent-fuels containing B=N bonds (e.g., borazine) were formed. Density functional Theory (DFT) method was further employed to elucidate the role of the solid promoters.
