Abstract
The polarization spectrum of a two-level atom driven by a symmetrical bichromatic pump field is examined. It is shown that the heterodyne parametric four-wave interactions result in the amplification of a weak probe field without population inversion at the line center in a wide range of pump and probe field intensities.
