Abstract

An optical channel-switching transmission filter was developed using the segmented chirped fiber Bragg grating. The filter was capable of selecting any wavelength channel of an input wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) by independent channel switching. The performance of the filter was controlled by a piezoelectric transducer attatched to the segmented chirped fiber Bragg grating. The applications of the filter in wavelength multiplexing, routing, cross-connecting and tuning several passbands were discussed.
