Abstract

Morphological characteristics of the anamorphic states in 23 species of the genus Uncinula and allied genera are described and illustrated. All species examined produced conidia singly, but the morphology of foot-cells in conidiophores was variable and of taxonomic value. Furthermore, the position of the conidiophores on their mother cells, central or non-central, was newly found to be stable in different species and proposed for the first time as an important criterion for classifying species.
