This special issue aims to report the latest research and development on biowaste applications. The relevant topics include: • Novel and effective energy recovery from biowaste; • Biowaste as raw materials for production of bioenergy, biochemicals, and biomaterials; • Application of biowaste for effective remediation of contaminated sites; and • Application of biowaste for effective removal of emerging pollutants. This issue fills a gap in the current lack of updated and comprehensive information concerning firstly the management, regulation and policy concerning different application of biowaste; and secondly the removal of emerging toxic substances using unconventional treatment technologies. The Guest Editors are thankful to the Editors-in-Chief for providing an opportunity to publish this special issue. They are also thankful to Managing Editor, Catherine Cliffe, and her team members in the Process Safety and Environmental Protection editorial office for their dedication in providing great assistance from the beginning to the end of the review and publication processes. Our sincere appreciation to all the reviewers for their rigorous review of manuscripts submitted to the special issue. We look forward to another special issue in Process Safety and Environmental Protection featuring selected papers from The 2nd International Conference on Bioresource, Energy, Environment and Materials Technology (BEEM2018), which will be held from the 10th to 13th June 2018 in Gangwon Province, Korea. This forthcoming special issue of the journal will focus on the theme of Environmental Management of Mass Carcasses.
