Abstract
The stick waveguide resonator modes in a photonic crystal slab was investigated using a combination of theory and experiment. The resonant mode profiles, frequencies and quality factors were calculated using the three dimensional finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The resonant modes originating from the lossless waveguide modes were found to have high quality factors. The results show that the highest quality factor among the resonant modes in the stick resonator with 12 missing air holes is >38,00000.
