Abstract

Macroporous chitosan scaffolds with high porosity and interconnected network structure were fabricated in the spherical form by thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) method. It was observed that pore size, pore size distribution, and interconnection among pores are dependent on the quenching temperature and organic phase. Hepatocytes, epithelial cells, fibroblast cells, and packaging cells, which were cultured on chitosan beads, proliferated well for up to ten days.
