Abstract

In open loop experiments it was found that a resting stripe does not influence the time averaged (over 120 s) yaw torque signal of a tethered flying fly irrespective of the position at which it is presented. Although the crickets fixate single stripes sagitally within a small angular range, at presentation of a periodic pattern they are not only able to fixate each of the black stripes in their sagittal plane but also the center between two stripes and probably also each transition between these two extremes. Whether this behaviour can merely be deduced from the results of single stripe experiments is unclear at present and will be clarified by further experiments.
