Abstract

The structure of A2+(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 (A2+: S2+ and Ca2+) ceramics was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and interpreted based on Nagai's model. Specimens of these ceramics were synthesized by a conventional solid-state reaction method from BaCO3 (Aldrich, 99%), SrCO3 (Aldrich, 99%), CaCO3 (Aldrich, 99%) MgO (Junsei, 99%) and Nb2O5 (Tritech, 99.9%) powders. The structure of Ca(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 (CMN) was especially investigated in detail because the previously suggested structure for CMN, the orthorhombic unit cell, is not clear.
