    Abstract

Although a CFT (Concrete Filled Steel Tube) column has superior moment capacity to a reinforced concrete column, the CFT column is not popularly used as a pier because the high constructing cost. To reduce the material cost and the self-eight of the CFT column, a new type CFT column, which has a hollow section and an internal steel tube, was developed. This internal tube makes concrete to be under triaxial confinement. By the internal confinement, the developed ICH CFT (Internally Confined Hollow CFT) column has enhanced strength and ductility. In this research, a nonlinear column model for an ICH CFT column was developed with considerations of confining effects. Analysis results show that an ICH CFT column has enhanced strength and the developed column model is a reasonable model.
