Abstract

This report describes the results on the development of ion impermeable semicon compounds for medium voltage underground distribution cables. The main idea of this compound is to impart ion scavenging ability to the ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA). A preliminary test on the ion permeation in the EVA modified by ethylene acrylic acid copolymer (EAA) showed a decrease of ion permeation through the blend. Physical properties such as tensile properties, processability and strippability of the blends are also described.
