Abstract
We investigated hydrogen ion-beam irradiation effects on a KH 2PO 4 (KDP)-type ferroelectric system, TIH 2PO 4 (TDP), showing an antiferroelectric phase transition and a ferroelastic phase transition. A polycrystalline sample was irradiated by using a 1-MeV hydrogen ion beam to a dose of 10 15 ions/cm 2. The X-ray diffraction pattern showed a lattice elongation along the hydrogen bond direction. The complex impedance showed two different types of relaxation around the ferroelastic phase transition. A prominent decrease in the bulk dielectric constant was also observed after the irradiation. The macroscopic changes due to the irradiation are discussed in light of proton dynamics.
