Abstract
Preparation of metal oxides coating on the surface of LiCoO2 particles were carried out by a gas suspension spray method and examined for their electrochemical performance for the cathode materials of lithium secondary batteries. Employed coating materials in this study were Al2O 3, ZrO2 and TiO2. Metal oxide coating increased surface area and gave the better cycle performance and higher thermal stability than uncoated LiCoO2. This is probably due to the formation of Li-M-Co-O layers, which prevent the Co dissolution from the LiCoO2 structure. The highest capacity retention was observed for the ZrO2 coated LiCoO2 in our experimental range.
