    Abstract

Micromagnetic simulations of writing and reading processes in a perpendicular system including a single pole head and a recording medium with soft underlayer (SUL) have been performed. The effect of SUL on noise in double-layered perpendicular recording media was investigated by comparing three different cases (i) ideal bit in single layer, (ii) realistic bit in single layer without SUL, and (iii) realistic bit in double layer with SUL.
