Abstract

Impingement of liquid fuel spray on the surface of intake manifold influences on the performance and emission of IC engine. In order to provide the characteristics of liquid fuel droplets after impingement on the surface including the droplet size and liquid film formation on the surface, experimental study was carried out for the droplets impinging on the vertical heated plates with and without triangular grooves. Water and heptane are chosen as the fuel. Attack angle, temperature of plate and groove angle on the selected as the major parameters, and the effects of these major parameters on the spray characteristics of rebounced droplets are examined. It is found that the attack angle, temperature of plate and the groove angle affect on the distribution of SMD, volume concentration of droplets after impingement as well as the formation of liquid film on the plate.
