Abstract

A noble process is proposed using a giant magnetostrictive thin film that allows the realization of 1×N optical switch for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical network system. To use giant magnetostrictive R-Fe thin films as a driving material in microdevices, thin films of amorphous Tb-Fe and Sm-Fe based thin films are investigated. Focus is on increasing magnetostriction at a low magnetic field.
