Abstract

VLDL levels are elevated in type II diabetes, where they contribute to the risk of coronary heart disease. A study by Wolfrum and Stoffel (2006) shows that the forkhead protein Foxa2 stimulates hepatic VLDL production in concert with the coactivator PGC-1β and that insulin inhibits this process by inactivating Foxa2.
