Abstract
This paper discusses fault detection of improper refrigerant charge for heat pump system using model-based method. In this study, we employed normalized distance method for fault detection classifier. Normalized distance method identifies a fault by statistically different between the current residuals and the expected residuals. Compressor speed, outdoor air dry bulb temperature, and indoor air dry bulb temperature are selected as independent variables of fault-free reference model. Dependent variables select compressor discharge temperature, condenser temperature, evaporator temperature, superheat temperature, subcool temperature, and total current. In this study, we developed fault-free reference model using experimental characteristic data of heat pump system under normal operation. Sensitivity analysis of fault detection was carried out with respect of fault progress. Fault detection using normalized distance method proposed in this study predicts accurately failure mode for improper refrigerant charge.
