Abstract
New indices of stand structure are developed, based on data from even-aged, homogenous stands of Pinus densiflora and uneven-aged mixed stands with various pine and oak species in the Kangwon-Province, Korea. The usefulness of the indices is evaluated in comparison with the spatial variable diameter differentiation. The results of the analysis reveal that simple, position-independent indices are about as suitable for describing spatial structures as more sophisticated position-dependent ones, provided they have been assessed in small sample plots.
