Hierarchical motion estimation algorithm using reliable motion adoption

    Abstract

    An enhanced hierarchical method for true motion estimation is presented that not only produces consistent motion vectors within each large object but also accurately estimates the motion of small objects. Experimental results show that a frame interpolation method provided with the motion fields of the proposed algorithm achieves average PSNR improvements of 1.2-2.3dB for interpolated frames as compared with those of conventional algorithms.
