    Abstract

Nitromethane (CH 3NO 2), the simplest aliphatic nitro compound, is an important monopropellant and explosive. While there have been several claims for pair association in the liquid state, the mechanism of this phenomenon has not been clarified unambiguously. We report evidence obtained by using 1H nuclear magnetic resonance of a high-pressure dimerization above 750 bar in liquid nitromethane.
