Abstract

Hydrogen production by steam reforming of methane over a mixed Ni/MgAl+CrFe3O4 catalyst was performed. The catalyst was prepared by physically mixed method and it was compared to the iron and chromium promoted Ni/MgAl catalyst prepared by impregnation method. The prepared catalysts were characterized by various analytical techniques such as nitrogen physisorption, TPR XRD, TGA and SEM. The catalytic activity over a fixed-bed reactor(ID=0.5 inch) was investigated at a temperature range of 700-500°C, 1 bar pressure and feed molar ratio of H2O/CH4 = 2. It was found that the physically mixed catalysts showed higher hydrogen selectivity and methane conversion than the iron and chromium promoted Ni/MgAl catalyst because of activating CrFe3O4 by steam. It was considered that there was no decrease in the reducibility of active Ni phase of Ni/MgAl catalyst by adding of CrFe3O4 as WGS catalyst and it enhancing the catalytic performance.
