Abstract

In this paper, we propose a novel color image enhancement algorithm using two gamma-rescaling curves and a multi-scale Gaussian matrix (MSGM). Histogram extension is adopted for each color channel respectively as a preprocessing step. After HSI color space conversion, two gamma-rescaling curves are applied to the intensity component for balancing the brightness of the original image. The multi-scale Gaussian matrix is used to estimate the reflectance image for the recovery of image details. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides subjectively better visual quality than other conventional techniques.
