N2 - We present improved effective medium approximation for dense plasmonic nanoparticle monolayers. Our model is confirmed by the numerical experiment using the finite-difference time domain method. Through this, we show unique optical properties of plasmonic nanoparticle monolayers: (1) anisotropy of monolayers, (2) perturbation of resonance frequency due to the interaction, and (3) anomalous long-wavelength transparency.
