N2 - After partial hepatectomy, both of the putrescine and spermine contents of a male rat liver showed the initial rapid increase up to 416.01% and 131.92%, respectively, of the control values, at 6 hr and then fell down nearly to the control values at 48 hr. But the spermidine content exhibited an initial rapid increase (to 164.05% of the control value at 6 hr) followed by a consecutive increase (to 241.64% at 48 hr). The marked increase of the putrescine content was significantly inhibited by prazosin 5mg/kg, propranolol 10mg/kg, or nifedipine 15mg/kg, but it was not affected by yohimbine 5mg/kg or atenolol 10mg/kg. And the changes of the spermidine and spermine contents occurred after hepatectomy were not affected by all of the above adrenoceptor blockades as well as nifedipine. After hepatectomy, the remnant liver (29.7±2.45% of prehepatectomy liver weight) was restored to 52.1% at 48 hr, and the weight restoration rate was not affected by all of the above substances. The results suggest that the initial induction of hepatic ornithine decarboxylase occurred after partial hepatectomy seems to be dependent upon the α1-and β2-adrenoceptors and the Ca2+ influx sensitive to calcium channel blockades such as nifedipine.
