Abstract
This paper describes the results of a research project that was devoted to the integration of an automated process planning system with a CAM. The project consisted of two main parts: feature recognition and process planning. An approach based on inter-process communication has been adopted for feature recognition. For process planning, the object-oriented database of the CAM system has been used and the algorithm has been built within the CAM system. This paper reports on our experience with these issues and provides some guidelines for addressing the associated problems.
