Abstract

The laser-induced birefringence (LIB) in a wavelength-mismatched cascade system of homogeneously broadened ytterbium atoms was discussed. The transmission spectrum of two circular polarization (σ+ p and σ-p) components of strong probe field at fixed frequency, depending on the detuning of a circularly polarized coupling field from two-photon resonance was investigated. It was found that the σ+p-p) polarized component exhibits a narrow electromagnetically induced absorption (transparency) spectrum. The theoretical calculations done using density matrix equations and the experimental results were found to be converging.
