Abstract

The low energy-effective action is computed to two-loop order for strings on group manifolds by compactification of the effective action of a closed boson string. By suitably chosen embeddings of the spin connection in the background gauge fields, one obtains the low energy effective actions of the Bose sector of the heterotic string and type II superstring.
