Abstract
In an attempt to understand the origin of the magnetic moment in proton-irradiated graphite, we have studied the proton irradiation effect in highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG). A low-dose irradiation induced Curie paramagnetism in HOPG, and the magnetic moment per irradiated proton was estimated to be ∼2.4μB.
