N2 - Even though the computational power and storing capacities of mobile computing platforms have recently increased dramatically, so have the needs of mobile applications. With the advent of the cloud computing and wireless network technology, the mobile device finds itself as an ideal candidate as a multi-purpose interaction client device instead of as a stand alone computing station. In the line of such a trend, we present a software framework (called MIDAS) that enables an application to lend itself to many different types of interaction methods (namely, sensing and display) and accommodate users with variant client devices without platform specific coding. The paper discusses the requirements and the design of the software architecture, and in addition, demonstrates its effectiveness with several case studies.
