Abstract

This paper presents an isolation enhancement technique via a small rectangular ground plane protruded from a main ground plane for MIMO antenna applications. The MIMO antenna consists of two Planar Inverted-F Antennas (PIFAs) and is operated at the WCDMA band of 1.92-2.17 GHz. In this configuration, the electric field is more confined on each antenna, end-point and side-point of the ground plane. The measured gain and isolation (S21) of the proposed antenna are 0.58 dBi and more than 25 dB, respectively. The calculated efficiency and envelope correlation coefficient are 50 % and less than 0.1, respectively.
