Abstract

The Metadata Registry (MDR) is based on the international standard ISO/IEC 11179. The committee of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 32, which standardized the MDR, revised it to an improved version named the extended MDR (XMDR). However, no method is available in XMDR to map ontology registrations onto registries. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a mapping method for ontology registration (MMOR). The MMOR provides a method to map ontological concepts onto metadata registries. We propose herein a method that can define a mapping process and mapping roles between Web Ontology Language (OWL) constructs and metadata registry descriptions. The method guarantees semantic interoperability and facilitates flexibility of the registry.
