Abstract
Residential building energy consumption accounts for more than 11% out of the total energy consumption in the South Korea, therefore it is necessary to reduce the energy consumption. One possible way is the use of small-scale combined heat and power system, called micro CHP system. In this study, a medium-sized residential building and energy systems including micro CHP are modeled and its performance is evaluated. The CHP system can reduce the actual energy consumption by supplying not only the heat but also the electrical power. The convectional system which uses grid electricity and gas is compared with the micro CHP system in terms of economy and energy consumption. In results, gas consumption is increased while electricity consumption is significantly reduced. When applying the micro-CHP system therefore, total energy consumption and cost are reduced by 19%, 3%, respectively.
