Abstract

The Wagner hypothesis has been universally accepted and applied to describe the flexural-torsional buckling of compressed members and the lateral buckling of flexural members. Recently the validity of the hypothesis has been questioned by Ojalvo, and considerable efforts have been made to confirm the validity of the Wagner hypothesis. In this paper, the validity of the existing theory based on the Wagner hypothesis is demonstrated through re-derivation of the existing equations and finite element analyses.
