On the statistics of the residual frequency error for frequency estimators

    Abstract

    In this paper we propose some new statistical modeling of the residual frequency error when the classical open loop frequency estimator is employed. We obtain a closed-form for the cumulative density function (CDF) of the residual frequency error by using the method of convex combination. The simulation results show that the proposed statistical modeling is very accurate over a wide range of system parameters.
