    Abstract

The phase changes in the cathode material, Co3O4 coated Ni, in the molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) were discussed. Phase changes were observed during the synthesis of Co3O4 coated Ni powders using polymeric precursor based on Pechini method. The NiO is found to be coated with lithinated Co-Ni solid oxide in molten carbonate. It was stated that the slubility of Ni from the LiCoNiO2 layer in to the molten carbonate was expected to decrease more than that of the NiO used as a cathode for MCFC.
