Abstract
A medium-finesse birefringent Fabry-Perot interferometer for an atom-trapping experiment was analyzed. The interferometer was devised to compensate the birefringence coming from the mirrors. The inteferometer was mounted in a ultrahigh vacuum chamber to trap atoms optically. A mathematical method was developed to describe the interferometer birefringence. The results show that birefringes along the vertical and horizontal axes are produced by the the ring-type wedge and the vertical/horizontal tilt mechanism.
