Abstract

The morphology control of Eu-doped Y2O3 particles prepared from high concentration solution (1 M) was attempted to produce solid phosphor particles by colloidal seed-assisted spray pyrolysis. Yttrium (Y) and gadolinium (Gd) hydroxy carbonate sols, obtained by the aqueous solution method, were used as nucleation seeds of Y and europium nitrate salts in the spray pyrolysis. The effect of types of solution on the crystallinity and luminescence properties of phosphor particles was investigated. All of the samples prepared from colloidal solutions exhibited higher brightness and a high concentration of Y hydroxy carbonate sol had the highest photoluminescence intensity, which was 115% of that of the particles prepared from the conventional aqueous solution.
