    Abstract

    Reactions of dl- and meso-stilbene dibromides with 2-nitropropan-2-yl anion in DMSO proceed by the E2 mechanism, whereas that of erythro-p-nitrostilbene dibromide proceeds by a competing ionic and SET mechanism.
