Abstract
Anticipation for the unification of the two Koreas has been rising with the collapse of the communist nations of eastern Europe in the late 1980s, and the demolition of Germany's Berlin wall. There may be some different assertion as to the method and the time of the unification but there cannot be a difference in asserting the importance of preparing for the unification or that of privatization of the forests. This article focuses on examining the method of rational forest-land privatization in accordance with the system's transformation which will occur in North Korea after unification. For this, the article analyzes the current status of forest in North and South Korea and explores the possibility of applying the experiences of eastern Germany and eastern Europe to North Korea in terms of speed and method of forestland privatization. In order to reach a rational method of restructuring ownership after unification, a 'Forest Complex Model' is offered. It considers the increase of state and public forest and the adequate scale of forestland for the efficiency of forest management.
