Abstract

A new algorithm is presented for finding reduced-order modelsof the linear time-invariant systems. Proposed recursive algorithmminimizes a weighted mean squared impulse (or step)response error between the original system and the reducedorder model. This proposed optimization algorithm requiresolving very easy linear equations rather than the usual complicatednon-linear equations. The procedure guarantees a reducedorder stable model at each recursive stage. Method iseasily extended to multi-input/multi-output systems. Algorithm'sperformance is compared with other methods reported in theliterature.
