Abstract

The static holdup of liquid slag in carbonaceous beds at high temperatures was studied using lab-scale experiments. The effects of particle size, type of carbonaceous materials, and slag composition on the static holdup of liquid slag were investigated. The particle diameter was found to be the most important factor determining the static holdup. From the experimental results, the empirical dimensionless correlation for the static holdup of liquid slag (H s) in the carbonaceous beds was derived in terms of the modified capillary number (Cpm). Hs=32.9xCpm -0.562.
