Abstract
The crystal structure and microwave dielectric properties of La(Mg2/3Nb1/3)O3 (LMN) were studied using high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) with conventional and synchrotron sources. The XRD pattern showed that rhombohedral LMN was distorted by the anti-phase tilt of octahedral and anti-parallel shift of A-site cations. However, TEM analysis revealed that rhombohedral LMN has the in-phase tilt of octahedral as well as the anti-phase tilt of octahedral and anti-parallel shift of A-site cations. The relative density of the specimens sintered above 1350°C was above 96% of the theoretical density and the dielectric constant of the specimen was about 27. The temperature coefficient of resonance frequency ranged between -82 and -86 ppm/°C.
