Abstract
The effect of the early crystallization behavior on the plasticity of a Cu 43Zr 43Al 7Ag 7 bulk metallic glass alloy has been investigated using differential scanning calorimeter and high-resolution transmission electron microscope. An Ag-riched amorphous phase formed by phase separation is crystallized first and is characterized by a low activation energy for crystallization. The large plasticity of the Cu 43Zr 43Al 7Ag 7 alloy observed during compression test can be explained by the formation of Ag-rich nanocrystals induced by deformation.
