Abstract

The SEER (Seasonal Efficiency Energy Ratio) and SCOP (Seasonal Coefficient of Performance) considering yearly usage distribution are used as efficiency indicators of air conditioners and heat pumps. These seasonal efficiency values fit the current trend better than previous values such as EER and COP because they reflect the trend of usage of cooling and heating devices without seasonal distinctions. In this study, we investigated the effects of operation variables such as compressor frequency and fan speed in outdoor heat exchangers on cooling seasonal efficiency of a residential air conditioner. In addition, we investigated optimum operation variables to satisfy high seasonal efficiency of the cooling device. As a result, the compressor frequency and outdoor fan speed were the dominant factors for the seasonal efficiency. Therefore, it is important to satisfy part load and optimize outdoor fan speed to increase EER at each SEER evaluation condition.
